Immediately, I bought the DVD to watch it as often as I want. As the film went on I forgot it was silent, was enchanted by the moving story and totally impressed by the brilliant acting.
Aspiring actor Greg moves to Los Angeles with his strange friend Tommy, then agrees to star in his movie. The first 15 minutes were slightly underwhelming and I had the feeling that this was not going to be to my taste. I loved the musical score, really elevated the experience and was fitting for each scene. A life of dysfunction and abuse entagles a woman in the world of drugs, prostitution and imprisonment, but her healing begins behind bars.
Anyone who’s interested in the deeper journey that film provides along with the understanding that silent films hold a power that most films today can’t even touch needs to give this film the honor and attention it deserves. In about 5 minutes, you'll forget both.
This movie exposes how the spoken word can be overused making the case for "less is more" in great story telling, or at least that its possible to speak less.
